The Year of the Invitation : The Crossing of Power
Sermon given by Senior Pastor, Dan Tabolt
I. Forced Out
of Their Place.
Ex 14:10-11, 13-14
10 And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes,
and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid,
and the children of Israel cried out to the LORD. 11 Then they said to
Moses, "Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to
die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out
of Egypt?
13 And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still , and see
the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the
Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The
LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace."
It is a sign of immaturity when we have to be pushed into following the
things of the Lord. Our wills are very strong. In many cases when we say
we are too weak to do what God would have us to do it is just the
opposite. The problem is that our own will is too strong to yield. It is
not until trouble comes and we see our enemies marching and catching up
with us that we cry out to the Lord. Look what the Lord says to His people
as instruction.
Ps 32:8-11 Not Like Horse and Mule.
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide
you with My eye. 9 Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have
no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they
will not come near you.
10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD,
mercy shall surround him. 11 Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you
righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart! NKJV
II. Only the Hand of the Lord.
The truth is that for us to be able to pass from one situation to the will
of God it will take a “miracle” from the hand of God to make it happen. It
is the genius of God to put in his salvation, dependence on God and being
with us in it. To be a converted person means much more than just “getting
religion”. We must be born of the Spirit of the living God. Regenerated,
converted, and raised from the dead are other names for it. In short, each
one of us must have the living God make the way for us. He is the one that
parts the Red Sea.
A. Not Legalism but Christ, Circumcision of the Heart:
Phil 3:3 For we are the circumcision , who worship God in the Spirit,
rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, NKJV
Col 2:11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made
without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the
circumcision of Christ, NKJV
B. Doing Business with God.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born
of the Spirit is spirit . NKJV
Phil 1:6 He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the
day of Jesus Christ; NKJV
The real person of God is a man or woman that will have the finger prints
of God all over them. By this I mean that God is not simply interested in
giving us a free ticket to heaven in which you are walking simply on
theories. His aim is to work out this salvation with you. To show Himself
strong for you so that your confidence in Him grows and grows as you learn
to trust him.
III. Israel Crossing the Jordan
A. Dressed for War is Dressed in God!
Joshua 3:1 Then Joshua rose early in the morning; and they set out from
Acacia Grove and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel,
and lodged there before they crossed over. 2 So it was, after three days,
that the officers went through the camp; 3 and they commanded the people,
saying, "When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and
the priests, the Levites, bearing it, then you shall set out from your
place and go after it. 4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it,
about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may
know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way
before."
5 And Joshua said to the people, "Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the
LORD will do wonders among you." 6 Then Joshua spoke to the priests,
saying, "Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over before the
people."
So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.
7 And the LORD said to Joshua, "This day I will begin to exalt you in the
sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I
will be with you. 8 You shall command the priests who bear the ark of the
covenant, saying, 'When you have come to the edge of the water of the
Jordan, you shall stand in the Jordan.'"
9 So Joshua said to the children of Israel, "Come here, and hear the words
of the LORD your God." 10 And Joshua said, "By this you shall know that
the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from
before you the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Hivites and the
Perizzites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Jebusites: 11
Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing
over before you into the Jordan. 12 Now therefore, take for yourselves
twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from every tribe. 13 And it
shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who
bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the
waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the
waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap."
1. A three day reality check. 2. The Ark shall go before you.
3. Sanctify yourselves. 4. Standing in the Jordan.
Forced to move? Only God can make a way!
