The Year of the Invitation : Praise Him in the Sanctuary
Sermon given by Senior Pastor, Dan Tabolt

So here we are this morning, the Church of Jesus Christ, His own special people. We are the called out ones, the royal priesthood of God, called together to praise Him, to make his praise glorious. In 1 Chron. 12:1-2, we read of the men that came to David at Ziklag. They were mighty men, helpers in the war, armed with bows, using both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows with the bow. What they were in their private lives became greater when they came together for the battles of the Lord. There can be a sense of the army, the Kingdom, the Holy Nation, that caused a camaraderie to cause us all to rise to a higher level of commitment and duty that we cannot always achieve on our own. In his book, The Greatest Generation, Tom Brokaw tells the story of how a whole nation came together to stop a world gone mad with evil. There was no sacrifice too big, no personal right more important, that would not be brought down, that would defeat their foe. The Word of God calls our coming together a “Holy Convocation”, a time when we must and can become much bigger than ourselves, for we are gathering together unto Him.

Introduction:

Ps 63:1-3 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. 2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.

  1. Early will I seek You.
  2. Hunger Pains for God.
Thirsts, longs, dry and thirsty land with NO WATER.

I. I Am Glad to Be in His House

Ps 122:1-2 I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go into the house of the LORD." NKJV

  1. When we are looking, the sanctuary can be an unpredictable place.

    A. A Place where the Glory is:

1 Kings 8:10-12 And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, 11 so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud ; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD. NKJV

    B. A Place where revelation and Help is:

Ps 73:16-20 When I thought how to understand this, It was too painful for me — [Thought on what? 1-15] 17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then I understood their end. 18 Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction. 19 Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with errors.

II. A Place of Holy Sounds:

  1. The Clapping of Hands
  2. The Sound of the Shout
  3. The Blowing of the Trumpet and Many Instruments
  4. The Place of the Song of the Lord
  5. The Place of the Dance

III. A Place of God’s Power:

  1. Power of God in His Deliverance of Israel:

Ps 114:1 When Israel went out of Egypt, The house of Jacob from a people of strange language, 2 Judah became His sanctuary, And Israel His dominion. 3 The sea saw it and fled; Jordan turned back. 4 The mountains skipped like rams, The little hills like lambs. 5 What ails you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, that you turned back? 6 O mountains, that you skipped like rams? O little hills, like lambs? 7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, At the presence of the God of Jacob, 8 Who turned the rock into a pool of water, The flint into a fountain of waters. NKJV

  2. The Shout of the King is in the Camp:

1 Sam 4:5-7 And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted so loudly that the earth shook. 6 Now when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, "What does the sound of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?" Then they understood that the ark of the LORD had come into the camp.

IV. The House That Bears His Name:

Dan 9:17 Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord's sake cause Your face to shine on Your sanctuary , which is desolate. 18 O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations, and the city which is called by Your name; for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies. 19 O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name." NKJV
