The Year of the Invitation : Praise Him on the Battlefields
Sermon given by Senior Pastor, Dan Tabolt

“General Stewart, you sir are the eyes of this army, without you we are made blind, it has already happened once, it must never happen again.”

- Gen. Robert E Lee

Introduction: The Eyes of the Battlefields:

1 Cor 2:14-15 But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. KJV

Can you image fighting a battle in complete darkness? The sad reality is that for people that do understand the spiritual equation in this life it is just like fight in the dark. The bible clearly teaches us that all our battles have a Spiritual Backdrop. Things are not as they seem. Last week we looked at the topic of “Praising Him in the Marketplaces”. Releasing the power of God in the work places that changes our communities and the world. It acknowledges that Jesus not ourselves is Lord of all. Making every thing we do an act of worship places Him in his rightful place which is above all. So it is with all the battles fields of life, we much recognize that battle belongs to the Lord.

Eph 6:11-13 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Matt 8:10-11 Great Faith, When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!

John 4:50-5:1 Your son Lives." Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your son lives."…
52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, "Your son lives

Matt 8:13-14 Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that same hour .

I. Victory over the Amalekites Ex 17:8-18:1
(Gen 14:7; Num 13:29; 14:25)

8 Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

1. Do We Know Our Enemies?

The Flesh, The World, and the Devil.

2. Who Was Amalek?
a. Descendant of Esau Fighting against the heir is in his blood.
b. Attack with no provocation
c. God declared war in every Generation.

II. Setting the Battle in Array. [Order]

9 And Moses said to Joshua, "Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand." 10 So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses , Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

We can not avoid warfare. If we are to war a good warfare we must know the battlefield. Who we are fighting and how to fight to win. What is God's place, what my place is and what is the enemies place.

1. The Weapon of Choose. Hands lifted up toward God.

Ps 63:4 Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. NKJV

Ps 141:2 Let my prayer be set before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. NKJV

A. The Weapon of our warfare.
B. The stick that became the rod of God
C. Empty hands held toward God.
D. Remember who commands the battlefield. The battle is the Lords.

12 But Moses ' hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

2. Weapons that are not carnal but spiritual and mighty.

2 Cor 10:4-54 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, NKJV

a. It does not say Joshua became heavy but that Moses did. It is harder to stand in faith than to fight with the arm of the flesh.

3. The Revelation of Jehovah-nissi - The Lord is my banner,

14 Then the LORD said to Moses ,"Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven." 15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-LORD-Is-My-Banner; 16 for he said, "Because the LORD has sworn: the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation."

III. Trained for War.

Judah shall go out first and lead them.

Psalms 144:1 Blessed be the LORD my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle — 2 My loving-kindness and my fortress,
My high tower and my deliverer, My shield and the One in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me. NKJV

Psalms 3:1 LORD, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. 2 Many are they who say of me, "There is no help for him in God. "Selah
3 But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. 4 I cried to the LORD with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah
5 I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me. 6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around.
7 Arise, O LORD; Save me, O my God !For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly. 8 Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah NKJV

Deut 3:21 "And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, 'Your eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings; so will the LORD do to all the kingdoms through which you pass. 22 You must not fear them, for the LORD your God Himself fights for you .' NKJV
